Is Royal Doulton Worth Anything?

Evaluating the Worth of Royal Doulton

21/05/2023

Royal Doulton is an instantly recognisable and internationally collected name. Their figures and toby jugs have been produced for over a century in a wide array of subjects, styles and colours, the rarest of which often fetching five figure sums at auction.

Generally, the most valuable Doulton figures were produced in the first half of the 20th century, as production runs were small, and figures were sculpted and decorated by names now synonymous with Doulton such as Arthur ‘Leslie’ Harradine. More recently however, modern figures made in limited runs such as ‘Henry VIII and his VI wives’ have been commanding strong prices at auction, indicating that the market is buoyant as ever.

Whilst most Royal Doulton figures can be bought at auction at relatively low prices due to their vast numbers of production, large collections and individual rare pieces or groups are still very desirable with collectors. For the rarest of pieces even damage can be of little deterrent.
